Fairbanks Mercantile Scale
description
Fairbanks counter height, platform-scoop “Union Scale”, capacity 250 lb, cast iron, single beam brass bar with attached weight. Marking on underside of body is PGQ1G and underside of platform is PGQ2G. Mechanically it appears to be complete.
Includes 4 claw weights with holder. 3 weights are Crowfoot and 1 is unknown. Crowfoot weights are 1 at ¾ lb (with additional marking of 5) and 2 at 1 ½ lb with additional marking of 10). Miscellaneous weight is 1 ½ (with additional markings of 10 and 100).
This scale excludes the split hoop scoop and fork (scoop holder). Manufacture likely is after 1915 (an earlier version was 1886 – 1890. It appears to have been manufactured prior to the introduction of the “Fairbanks-Morse” logo.
We don’t know how accurately it weighs but the Washington Department of Weights and Measures certified its accuracy in 1945.
