MOCA OVER/UNDER PASS OIL PAINTING
$ --
description
This painting is a result of an exploratory journey at a construction site of a four lane roadway in front of Museum of Contemporary Art in Los Angeles CA with my Nikon in hand. I took several images along with one showing a beguiling perspective. When I printed the photo as large as my Zeiss enlarger permitted, the idea struck me to slice it vertically in increments of 3/4 of an inch and rotate every other slice 180 degrees. Then I superimposed the design onto a large canvas and painstakingly reproduced the image in oil. When rotated, one could swear that the image is the same, because we tend to be pattern seeking creatures, especially this suggestive. - But it is everything BUT. It's a surrealistic illusion.
